digital radiography DIGITAL RADIOGRAPY is a method of obtaining x-ray images in which sensors are used instead of conventional film. No longer do films have to be chemically processed. This allows the clinician to immediately view the image on a computer monitor. These Images can then be enhanced, thereby allowing for a more accurate diagnosis by the doctor. Also, these digital images can be easily transferred between dental offices if the need for a referral should arise. Much less radiation is used to obtain the image than with conventional dental radiography using films.
INTRAORAL CAMERAS are tools we use to obtain images of dental disease or other abnormalities in our patients' mouths. These cameras are slightly larger than a pen and obtain photographic images of very high quality. When displayed on our television sets, these images aid us in educating our patients about a variety of conditions affecting their oral structures. We can also attach these images to your insurance claim allowing us to communicate more effectively with your insurance company.
preventative care PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY is an area of dental care that focuses on the preservation of your teeth, gums and supporting structures. We place great emphasis on educating our patients about their oral health enabling you to better prevent cavities and oral diseases of many kinds. Sealants, fluoride treatments and regular dental cleanings are just a few of the services we offer to our patients to help them maintain their oral health for a lifetime.
RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY includes a wide variety of specific techniques and procedures employed to restore existing teeth that have become diseased and/or traumatized. Fillings, crowns and bridges are a few of the ways we are able to restore and rebuild your teeth back to their optimal form and function. Typically, patients choose either porcelain or gold for crowns and bridges. Fillings can be silver, gold or tooth colored.
PERIODONTAL (GUM) TREATMENT is a discipline of dentistry that pertains to ridding the mouth of bacterial pathogens that destroy the gum tissues and bone supporting and surrounding the teeth. If gum disease is detected early and proper therapy is administered, it is very treatable and can be easily maintained both at home with proper home care and routine recare visits at our office. Without proper therapy, tooth mobility and/or tooth loss may result over time.
cosmestic dentistry COSMETIC DENTISTRY is a term used to describe any treatment or procedure used to improve the appearance of a person's teeth, gums and overall smile. Tooth whitening, reshaping and bonding are done in our office routinely to improve the esthetic appearance of many of our patients. We also place porcelain crowns and veneers, which are custom fit to each patient, to disguise discolored teeth and close any unwanted gaps.
dentures, partials, and implants DENTURES, PARTIALS and DENTAL IMPLANTS are ways to replace missing teeth. Dentures and partials are removable appliances that are made entirely of acrylic or a combination of metal and acrylic. Dental implants are used in dentistry to support a wide variety of dental restorations. Surgery is required for placement of the actual implant post into the jaw bone. Once adequate healing has occurred crowns, bridges and dentures can then be attached to the implanted post to meet each individual's specific treatment needs.
ROOT CANAL THERAPY is required when the pulp tissues deep within the tooth have become damaged by decay, trauma or infection. The pulp tissues are composed of nerves and blood vessels, which keep the tooth alive and thriving. Root canal treatment involves accessing and removing all infected and diseased tissue. The root canal system is then cleansed and shaped with a variety of instruments and disinfectants. Finally a filling material is placed deep within the tooth essentially replacing the previously existing pulp tissue.
